Imperfect Perfection Can Be Perfect
One of the things that I find most interesting about people in general, is that they visualize what they want and know what they want, even at a young age.
There are many reasons for this, and without getting too deep into theological and philosophical things, it's easy to recognize that people create and are creative, at their core. People have a creative mind, and they like to think of ideas, and work to bring those ideas into a reality.
Where this plays into real estate can be a challenge for both the buyer and seller of a house. I can't think of a time I walked into a house and didn't think to myself "I would change this". Most of my buyers and sellers of property feel the same way. This isn't because we're judgemental. It's because we have a specific image in mind about what we want, how we would use it, and why we want it.
This is a beautiful part about my job: people have dreams and ideas, and I get to help them find it and make it come true.
This is also a beautiful part about the Des Moines Metro region, and Central Iowa in general: there are lots of new houses being built. This allows people to visualize, choose and create the house of their dreams. Viola, you've got what you've created. After lots of paperwork, lots of meetings and stress of course. But that's my job to help it be less stressful for you.
However, the title of this blog is "imperfect perfection can be perfect". Here is what I mean:
"Just because a house isn't perfectly the way you want it, doesn't mean it's not perfect for you, and doesn't mean it can't be perfect for you and your family" - Mike Dunne, circa a few minutes ago.
What I have found is that many of my clients look through a house and think about the "right now". Instead, I believe families should be looking more into the "potential". That mortgage isn't for 2 years. Just a bit longer.
I'm not saying that if you have 4 kids you shouldn't think about more than 2 bedrooms. I'm saying that you should be tapping into that creative mind of yours and visualizing what the house can do for you and your family. What memories can you make there? What family projects can you do to change something - and grow closer as a family while you do it? How excited will your kids be as they debate over who's room is who's?
The house doesn't have to be perfect. I hate to say it, but even if you love the house with every fiber of your being, it's probably not going to be perfect, whether you build it or whether you buy it. There's no way. That's a hard truth.
Perfection is a mindset. I'll tell you what, that house sure as heck can be perfect. You can make it perfect. Your family can make it perfect. It can be perfect for you.
It's up to you.
My job is to help people make their dreams come true, and learn as much as I can to make the buying and selling process more streamlined for my clients.
Your job is to decide if you want to build your house from the ground up, or build new memories in an established home by making it your own. Then let me know, so I can help you with either decision.
